North Dakota - Deputy Brand Inspector (At Large)

The North Dakota Stockmen's Association is seeking a hardworking, motivated individual to enforce the state's livestock laws, protect producers against livestock loss and theft and support other members of the brand inspection team. The position involves daily travel, including some overnight stays, within the state.

Skills:
Applicants must be knowledgeable of the livestock industry and brand inspection and have strong organizational, communication, interpersonal and investigative skills.

Responsibilities:
The Deputy Brand Inspector will have these primary responsibilities:

  • Train and support local brand inspectors.
  • Investigate infractions related to livestock brand inspection statutes and regulations.
  • Serve as a liaison between law enforcement agencies and the North Dakota Stockmen's Association.
  • Inspect livestock in transit.
  • Conduct local brand inspections and assist with inspection duties at auction markets, production sales and scales.
  • Inspect registered feedlots.
  • Maintain accurate records, including daily, investigative, processing plant and other reports.

Qualifications:
Applicants should have their North Dakota peace officer's license or successfully complete a 12-week law enforcement training course at the Law Enforcement Training Academy. Applicants must also demonstrate a strong work ethic and a commitment to the objectives of the organization.

Compensation:
The Deputy Brand Inspector will be offered a competitive compensation and benefits package, including health insurance and a 401 (K) savings plan with a company match.

North Dakota - Chief Brand Inspector

he North Dakota Stockmen's Association administers the state's brand inspection program. It is seeking a hardworking, motivated individual to oversee and lead the brand inspection program, enforce livestock laws, protect producers against loss and theft and support other members of the inspection team. The position is based in Bismarck, N.D. It involves regular travel, including a limited number of overnight stays within the state.

Skills:
Applicants must have strong organizational, communication, interpersonal, investigative and managerial skills and have or obtain a North Dakota peace officer's license.

Responsibilities:
The Chief Brand Inspector will have these primary responsibilities:

  • Direct and coordinate the brand inspection program for the State of North Dakota within the laws and regulations prescribed by the state and the North Dakota Stockmen's Association.
  • Employ, train, supervise and direct competent inspection and investigative personnel.
  • Develop, review and implement department policies and procedures.
  • Supervise the development and maintenance of the department budget.
  • Investigate infractions of brand inspection and livestock statutes and regulations.
  • Provide inspection services as necessary.
  • Keep and maintain accurate records.
  • Visit each market at least twice a year to determine that procedures are being performed satisfactorily.
  • Maintain a close working relationship with the North Dakota Stockmen's Association Brand Board and Executive Vice President in all brand inspection matters.
  • Coordinate with other law enforcement officers and agencies and livestock organizations.

Qualifications:
Applicants must be knowledgeable of the livestock industry and brand inspection; have their peace officer's license or be able to successfully complete a 12-week law enforcement training course at the Law Enforcement Training Academy and meet cur­rent North Dakota Peace Officer Standards and Training requirements. Applicants must also demonstrate a strong work ethic, a commitment to the objectives of the organization and high standards of integrity and ethics and possess a valid driver's license.
